It was a much colder day than recent weeks, but the team came out roaring at the start of the game, putting early pressure on the Firebrands defence. Wick’s attacking play was sharp, and we earned several short corners, creating plenty of chances.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. One Firebrands player received a fair warning from the umpires for arguing their decisions, but despite the warning, she continued to protest (as well as being prodded on by Jen), resulting in a yellow card. Distraught by the decision and unable to control herself, she decided to leave the pitch and head home early, leaving her team to battle on with one less player.
At halftime, Wick held a solid 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Rosie and Shelby.
The team looked confident as the second half began. We seemed to lose a bit of focus and formation leaving Firebrands space to which they capitalised on and were able to score early in the second half to bring the game to 2-1. Despite the pressure, Wick’s determination didn’t waver. They kept their paws to the grindstone and continued to push forward, eventually securing the win with a third goal from Emma from a short corner.
The final score stood at 3-1.
The team’s victory was a hard-earned one, but it was a reminder that no matter the weather or the bear-shaped challenges faced, Wick always has the strength to finish the game strong—just like a bear defending its territory
