‘Twas a grey November Saturday at Gordano School. With the men still playing, we had plenty of time to chat through team and work out our game plan. In a third term first, Liz and Lizzie would be alternating between defence and forward and we were hoping this would bring in a birthday goal for our Lizzie!
To quote Helen, the first 2 minutes were ‘the worst of our lives’ with some questionable passes and headless chicken behaviour. Subbing gate slowed our momentum: note to self, Liz, Iz and Lizzie sound way too similar. We also fell victim to the curse of the Britney headset again and we experienced some questionable umpiring. It was giving GCSE PE if we’re honest. At one point, their number 23 even argued with the umpire over whether Emma had deliberately kicked the ball off the backline (she had).
We soon settled in, making more use of the wings and finally being more vocal on the pitch (you’re welcome, Jen). Defence was working overtime and Emma was on fire, even making a spectacular dive at one point. In a clear case of style over substance, North Somerset must have missed at least 20 shots on goal (sucks to be them).
After a solid performance, we ended the first half 0-0. North Somerset scored soon into the second half, but our dreamy defence kept them from scoring any more until the very last minute where they made it 2-0.
All in all, a solid performance from the gworls and we all came away feeling like we had given it our all!
Players player - unanimously, Emma
Captains player - a triumphant return for Alice
Donkey - Liz for sacking off teas when she got lost
A special shout-out to Katie's parents for cheerleading (in Wick green we should add)
