In our most recent training session, we took a little break from our usual mid-training fitness to focus on mindfulness and mental health. To recognise World Mental Health Day, three of our lovely club members - Emma, Becca and Sarah - led a special Mental Health Focus session.
Everyone was asked to wear a touch of yellow with their training kit, which really brought us all together and set the tone for the evening.
The session began with a chat about the correlation between exercise and mental health, and how changing your mindset can make a big difference during a game. We paired up and took a few quiet moments to simply push the ball back and forth, focusing on the movement and being present in the moment.
Following this, we listened to a talk on staying calm and positive under pressure, and learning strategies on how to stay cool, calm and collected during matches.
And to finish off the session, the club got stuck into a round of Human Bingo. This involved chatting to different members of the club, and find people who fit each bingo category, such as "is left handed" or "has never broken a bone". This was a brilliant way to connect with people we might not normally get the chance to talk to!
A huge thank you to Emma, Becca and Sarah for putting together such a thoughtful and engaging session.
